- In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old schoolboy joined hands with his aunt and allegedly murdered an aged woman to rob her gold chain to buy a PlayStation at Eekadu village in Thiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The boy and his uncle Bhaskar later allegedly set the body on fire after transporting it 15 km away to Sengadu village on a two-wheeler.
Earlier, aunt Saritha, 28, strangled the woman with a dupatta and after she fell unconscious, the boy dropped a grinding stone on her head. All three have been arrested.
Case cracked in 24 hours
Deputy superintendent of police, Sriperumbudur, V.R. Gajendra Kumar, who cracked the case within 24 hours, told Deccan Chronicle that the boy had hatched a conspiracy to murder the woman, Rajam, 65, a retired staff nurse, after his aunt, Saritha, 28, denied him Rs 8,000 to buy a Playstation.
Kumar said the boy invited Rajam to his house on the pretext of giving her mangoes. Soon after she entered, they closed the door and boy strangled her using a piece of cloth. As she was trying to save herself, Saritha strangled her using a dupatta. When Rajam fell unconscious, the boy hit her with a grinding stone and dropped the stone on her head.
After the murder, the boy and his aunt took the 3.5 sovereign gold chain and studs and packed the body in a gunny bag.
The boy's uncle, Baskar, 31, who came home at night, decided to dispose of the body to save his wife and the boy, police said. He carried the body on his Scooty with the boy riding pillion to Sengadu where they set fire to it.
The murder came to light when Rajam's son Roger Daniel lodged a complaint with Tiruvallur police station about his missing mother. Police zeroed in on the couple and the boy after neighbours told the police that they had last seen Rajam visiting their house. Source | |
