- When Warner Bros. announced the collector’s editions and season pass for Mortal Kombat X, we took notice of one of the items. The publisher promises a “guest character” for NetherRealm’s tenth Mortal Kombat game.
In a Toy Fair interview with Todd McFarlane, GamerFitnation has sussed out who that might be. There are no guarantees that he’ll be included, but Spawn creator McFarlane says that he’s given his permission to incorporate the dark anti-hero into the game.
“I need to get the brand of Spawn bigger than it is right now,” McFarlane says, before discussing his desire for a new Spawn film. He later says he plans to direct if Spawn returns to the big screen.
As for gaming, he alludes to a deal with Warner Bros., but doesn’t talk specifics. “We have this short deal with them, but after the movie we’ll be able to pick and choose,” he says. While he’s answering a question about Injustice and Mortal Kombat X, he doesn’t specifically commit that Spawn will appear in either of those franchises.
"They have the access to be able to use the character in a couple of their games if they want to. It's up to their discretion," McFarlane says. "I gave them a window of time and I'll just leave it to them to do what it is that they want. I don't know if they're ever going to use it."
If Spawn does make an appearance, it won't be his first. He was a guest character in the Xbox version of Soul Calibur II, while the PlayStation 2 version had Tekken's Heihachi and the GameCube version included Link. Source | |
