Super Smash Bros. For Wii U Pre-Orders At Record High

Quote :: Pre-orders for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U have exceeded those of Mario Kart 8 and are at a record high, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has told Bloomberg. The company expects the effect on Wii U hardware sales will be significant.

“The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year,” said Fils-Aime. “Our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic.”

According to Fils-Aime more consoles in homes Nintendo could generate increased support from third-party publishers with high-profile games not currently available on Wii U.

“Consumers buy the hardware so they can play the software,” he said. “When you have a robust library of games, that’s when consumers jump in.”

Nintendo recently announced that Wii U sales between April and September this year are double that of the same period last year and that worldwide Wii U sales currently sit at 7.29 million units shipped.
