The news accompanies a variety of rumors that Sony may be moving forward with a "soft" Spider-Man reboot, or that Peter Parker may even be put aside for a few years while Sony develops side characters, according to Badass Digest.

Their report comes on the heels of HitFix's claim that Sony Pictures is searching for ways to combine their wall-crawling hero with Marvel Studios' cinematic universe.

Sony has the Amazing Spider-Man spinoff The Sinister Six planned for a November 2016 release date. The studio also announced it's pushing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to an unspecified release date in 2018.
