According to Major Nelson, Xbox Live Gold will be free in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. It seems that Europe is out of luck, but the rest of us will be able to enjoy online gaming, Internet Explorer, Video Kinect, and Microsoft's catalog of entertainment apps, such as Netflix and Last.FM.
