- Bethesda only planned to launch its upcoming MMO The Elder Scrolls Online on PC and Mac until Sony intervened, reveals SCEA VP Adam Boyes.
In an interview with Game Informer, Boyes says that the game "was never planned to come to console" until Sony pitched Bethesda on making the jump to the PlayStation 4. Explains Boyes: "We just kept kind of sitting with them and being like, 'Well, why not?...Why don't you do this?'"
But Sony wouldn't take Bethesda's 'We're not planning it' as a final answer. "I'm like, 'Well, what if we built a plan [where] we could do that?'" says Boyes.
Apparently Boyes' enthusiasm for The Elder Scrolls Online - he says he loves MMOs and the Elder Scrolls series - caught on. So much so that the game will be released on both the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.
"Knowing that a game is coming to console that was never going to come to console, that's the kind of stuff that is like, 'Yes!' You know, hugely awesome," Boyes says.
The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Spring 2014, but a specific release date hasn't been announced. It will carry a $14.99/month subscription fee. Source | |
