| Although with a new expansion around the corner I'm sure those numbers will bump up somewhat once more. - Quote :
- As part of Activision Blizzard’s second quarter 2012 financial results, Blizzard reported a drop in subscribers for its popular fantasy MMO. World of Warcraft had 9.1 million subscribers as of June 30, 2012, which is down from 10.2 million from the previous report’s cutoff of March 31.
Still on the horizon is the Mists of Pandaria expansion to World of Warcraft, currently scheduled to launch on September 25, which could affect subscriber numbers. The expansion adds a new class, the Monk, bumps the level cap up to 90 from 85 and adds the continent of Pandaria for high level players to explore.
This drop in subscribers follows news of another subscription-based MMO taking a big hit: BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic dropped under 1 million subscribers recently, which coincided with an announcement that BioWare and EA would soon include a free-to-play option. Source: IGN | |
